Just one word. That’s all. No goals. No resolutions. Just one word. Really? Can it be that simple? Some say it is.
In the book “One Word that will change your life,” the writers argue that living by one word will be more successful then having goals or resolutions. Here are two points:
- 87% of adults create new goals and resolutions.
- 50% of resolution makers will fail by the end of January!
So, it was time for a much needed approach to impacting lives – something other than goals and resolutions. Thus the concept of choosing just ONE word for the year. Making simple a process for change.
The writers state that One Word can make a difference. One word can impact any and all areas of your life. And there are stories to back up those claims. But there is a process:
- Prepare your heart (look in)
- Discover your word (look up)
- Live your word (look out).
They advocate to pick a “to be” word, not a “to do” word. That one word can change everything.
See the link for the “one word poster” at the bottom of this post. Feel free to print it and share it with others.
Intrigued? Then check out the book. It will only take 30 minutes to an hour to read it. (Depending how fast you read a book.)
I think I’ll try it. It’s something different, something new.
What about you? Are you someone who wants to challenge yourself with goals and/or resolutions? Are you a person who likes to “grow” in your knowledge? Looking to be a better person in 2014? Why not try something different?
SHARE your thoughts. I want to hear from you what you think. But, buy the book and read it.

So what’s your word, Phil?
My word for 2014 is: Successful. We should choose a “be” word and not a “do” word. I invited others to share their words.
