Do I really know what it is?

What is leadership? Do I really know what it is? Or do I just think I know? According to dictionary.com it is:

1.the position or function of a leader, a person who guides or directs a group: He managed to maintain his leadership of the party despite heavy opposition. Synonyms: administration, management, directorship, control, governorship, stewardship, hegemony.

2 ability to lead: As early as sixth grade she displayed remarkable leadership potential. Synonyms: authoritativeness, influence, command, effectiveness; sway, clout.

There is both good and bad leadership. Great leaders have always existed regardless of the cause (just or unjust). But poor, ineffective leaders have always been around as well in both just and unjust causes. So, what kind of leadership do you exemplify?  That can be leadership in your home, church, school, work place, etc.

Many years ago, I was an inexperienced leader. Very inexperienced.  I thought I knew what needed to be done and how. That meant you did things when I wanted them done.  It makes me shudder to think that I was put in a position like that with no training of any kind.  I was immature in many ways. I could not look beyond what I thought should be done and when. Thank God that there was enough grace provided over time as I matured.  I was a leader, alright, just not the type of leader I should have been.

So, what about you? What kind of leader are you today? What were you in the past? I look forward to hearing from you.
